This Privacy Policy describes how Expert Mechanic, LLC (we/us) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with the Pinpoint Auto mobile application (the “App”). It applies to users worldwide. By using the App you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Data we collect
Depending on how you use the App, we may collect:
- Contact data: name & email address, if you send us Feedback or Flag a problem in the App
- Identifiers: name & email address, if you send us Feedback or Flag a problem in the App
- Payment data: payment identifiers when purchases are processed (we never see, nor store, card details)
- Device & usage data: device model, usage metrics, crash logs (securely stored on Google Analytics server)
- Location: we never access, collect, or store your location
- Content you provide: we do not collect your content unless you send it to us
All content you provide, and all AI-generated content, is stored locally on your device and is not collected or tracked by us.
2. How we use data
- To provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features
- To provide customer support and respond to inquiries
- To process transactions
- To comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and users
3. Sharing & third parties
We may share data with:
- Service providers (artificial intelligence, payment processors (play store, app store), analytics, email delivery)
- Law enforcement or other parties when required by law or to protect rights and safety
Cases where data is transferred between your device and an internet server:
App Startup
When starting up, Pinpoint Auto checks our server for an updated configuration file. This allows us to upgrade AI servers without forcing users to upgrade the App. No Contact data or Identifiers are transferred.
Avatar Generation
The year, make, model, and color of your vehicle is sent to our text2image server to generate an image of your vehicle. No Contact data or Identifiers are transferred.
AI Mechanic Consultations
When consulting AI Mechanic, the details of your vehicle, the details of your issue, any findings you have gathered, the tools you own, and the AI Conversation Level you've selected, are sent to our LLM server. No Contact data or Identifiers are transferred.
App Store / Google Play
Pinpoint Auto connects to the App Store or Google Play to process and verify your purchases. No Contact data or Identifiers are transferred by Pinpoint Auto.
Our Servers
Pinpoint Auto connects to our servers to load, validate and store transactions, and to synchronize pricing data, periodic offers, bonus offers, etc. No Contact data or Identifiers are transferred.
Send Feedback / Flag an Issue
When you Send Feedback, or Flag an Issue within the App, Pinpoint Auto connects directly to our email provider's server to send an email with the message you entered, your name, and your email address.
Video Reel Generation
To make your success with Pinpoint Auto fun and memorable, after you've solved an Issue, you can create a 20-second AI-generated video to post on social media. The AI-generated reel features you driving your car after solving your issue.
To create the video, the following data is sent to one or more servers: year, make, model, and color of your vehicle, the OBD code (if any), your first name, and your likeness (gender, skin color, hair color), so the person driving your car looks somewhat like you. No Contact data or Identifiers are transferred.
Once the video is generated, Pinpoint Auto will set up a post on the social media app of your choice. Pinpoint Auto receives confirmation when you post the video, but neither receives, nor stores, any Contact data or Identifiers from the social media app.
App Crash
In the unlikely event Pinpoint Auto crashes, a technical snap shot of what was happening just before and during the crash is sent to the Google Analytics server. No Contact data or Identifiers are transferred.
Customer Support
To help with a technical support ticket, you can select an Issue to upload to our server. When you upload an Issue, you receive a code to give to our support team so they can examine it. No Contact data or Identifiers are transferred.
4. Advertising & tracking
Pinpoint Auto does not have in-app advertising or offer app personalization tied to your identity.
5. Data retention & security
We retain personal data only as long as necessary to provide services, fulfill legal obligations, or resolve disputes. We implement commercially reasonable security measures to protect data, but no system is 100% secure. If you believe your data has been compromised, contact us immediately (see “Contact Us” below).
6. Children
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children without parental consent. If we discover we collected such information in error, we will delete it promptly.
7. How to manage permissions
You can manage permissions (camera, camera roll) through your device settings. The App asks for permission to access your camera and/or camera roll when you choose to take, or select, a photo of your vehicle. All photos are stored locally on your device. Your photos are never transferred off your device by Pinpoint Auto.
8. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction of processing, and objection. To exercise those rights, contact us (see “Contact Us”) and we will respond in accordance with applicable law.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be communicated via in-app notification.
